The adidas Harden Vol 1 Retro Features Updated Tech

James Harden is rare air when it comes to his status as an adidas signature athlete. With the impending release of the adidas Harden Vol 11, he’ll become the first basketball player to reach his 11th signature model since Derrick Rose. Still one of the highest profile names in the NBA, it’s likely that he’ll surpass him by the time his current deal expires in 2028. Further, Harden has expressed his interest in a lifetime deal with the Stripes; if signed, his legacy as an adi athlete is truly only getting started.

As Harden stares down his 18th year in the league, he and adidas are taking this moment to turn back the clock. News of the adidas Harden Vol. 1 Retro has been percolating for some months already, bringing future sig shoe recipient Jalen Williams into the fold as an endorser of the 2016 design. Though a China release and official images confirmed that the exterior look of the shoe was true to the original layout, adidas’ official announcement of the Harden Vol. 1 confirms a “Restomod” approach that updates the tooling inside.

The chief improvement is an update to the cushioning underfoot. Hyperboost foam replaces the original Boost formula, marking the second-ever inclusion of the race day technology on a hardwood model — the adidas Anthony Edwards 3 was the first. Of course, this is now a playbook that plenty of adi’s rivals have embraced; Nike’s Protro program has revived old Kobe Bryant designs with modern day hardware, while the erstwhile UA Curry Brand empire did the same by bringing Flow traction to Steph’s line.

The adidas Harden Vol. 1 Retro lands stateside via the “Pioneer” colorway on October 15th. A $140 retail price is confirmed.
