Days of our Hoopers is the show that never stops. It may rankle us on occasion how the 24/7 news cycle surrounding NBA basketball latches onto every potential slight, but we’ve got to accept our role in that dynamic. Particularly when it comes to Anthony Edwards’ adidas advertisements, we’ve certainly pulled out the popcorn bucket as he’s taken aim at his contemporaries and those in his way as he vies to bring home Minnesota’s first championship. In a play off of late-night shows, Mr. Edwards took aim at LeBron James in a spot for the Anthony Edwards 3, and via his Mind the Game program, the King is firing back.
Well, responding is probably the right term; the King took the high road and, when prompted by co-host Steve Nash, took a more defensive approach instead of taking his own shots at the young Timberwolf. Up top, he claimed that he never watches anything from “the Stripes,” proof of his company loyalty given he’s adopted the longstanding Nike employee policy of not mentioning adi by name.
Despite his insistence, he is pretty up to date on the jokes that Ant made, though he claims his familiarity comes from the headlines around the spot (ours included, perhaps?). Overall, the pull quote comes from LeBron retorting that his knees aren’t any better suited for Philly winters than Minnesota’s. Evidently, it was other factors that left the Wolves out in the cold.
