If you thought Melitta Baumeister’s first Nike pack was “out there,” you’re nowhere near ready for her second. Once again diving into the subversive, the New York designer has given the Nike Air Rift, a trending model in its own right, a complete overhaul called the Nike Rift Rocker, unveiled in NYC the other day as part of an immersive showcase called “Molded by Dedication.”
Set to release Holiday 2026 as a follow up to the brand’s distressed Vomero Premium and Pegasus Plus pack, the Rift Rocker is the biggest jump scare we’ve seen in a minute. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is entirely up to interpretation, but given fashion’s sudden penchant for the odd and unique, we’d say the execution fits well within the current landscape.

The original Nike Air Rift debuted in 1996, taking inspiration from the barefoot runners of Kenya and earning a cult following in Japan in large part for its unique tabi toe construction. Baumeister’s Rift Rocker maintains much of the same layering seen on the Rift proper, though the forefoot is now shielded with a traditional tongue and laces rather than being kept open. The lower half is obviously radically different, Nike checking in with a huge rocker midsole featuring large debossed Swooshes on the lateral side, concave areas at the rear and medial side, and even a heel accent reminiscent of the strap ends used up top. Dramatic as those changes are, the tabi toe construction remains.
As for the graphic touches, Baumeister’s eye motif makes cameos on the heel and bottom of the insoles, the latter within a larger footprint graphic reading “Think Outside” (no kidding). Co-branding on the inner tongue reads “You Bring The Body, We Bring The Shape” alongside a banana graphic with a Swoosh inside it, a nod to some of the brand’s tote bags and other accessories. Melitta Baumeister branding covers the main strap end, while puffy stitched Swooshes land on the forefoot. The outsole sports waffle-inspired traction with even more co-branding, including another foot graphic on one of the two included options.
The Melitta Baumeister x Nike Rift Rocker debuts soon in distressed black leather and Yukon Brown colorways. Pairs will be available first via the Melitta Baumeister site before hitting Nike SNKRS and other channels. See official images below if you’re as intrigued as we are.
