We’ve said it before, we’ll surely say it again: you’ve got your work cut out for you if you’re trying to match Salehe Bembury’s footwear output. As the PUMA Hali 2 came to light right before the start of the NBA season, the NYC-born designer introduced a new silhouette into his catalog. Now we’re staring down two new kicks with two distinct brands, as his SPUNGE independent label begins the Lumina journey at the end of the month.

Though the shape overall hews close to what the Osmosis accomplished, look closer at the upper to see the true selling point of the Lumina. New Mono-Mesh materiality helps bring the weight of this shoe down 15% compared to its predecessor, with additional depth and complexity achieved with overlapping, semi-translucent windows. On the eyestay in particular, the shift in approach is obvious, ditching the plush, chunky paneling the Osmosis relied on. Despite the changes up top, the Squish Tech hardware that SPUNGE has so far championed remains intact, now fully enclosed in a comprehensive cage system that still plays into Bembury’s trademark playful aesthetic.
The “Cenote” colorway shown here, a collision of greens, blues, and purples in an ostensible shoutout to currency, offers your first chance at the Salehe Bembury SPUNGE Lumina. Early access for newsletter subscribers opens on October 28 at 12 PM; public access opens exactly a day later. A $160 retail price is set across all of those channels.
