It doesn’t take a local to appreciate a region’s appreciation of sneakers. Look at how the DMV and NYC have made the Air Force 1 a global icon; it’s impossible to remove the East Coast’s influence and culture from the silhouette’s influence worldwide. Tokyo’s The Apartment has never shied away from its love for the Big Apple, seen in its last New Balance collaboration that pinned Yankees and Mets coloring on the New Balance 810 for a “Subway Series” two-fer.

Some two years after its last trip to the Boston brand, The Apartment reaches for the New Balance 2010, particularly in its new GORE-Tex outfit that’s been everywhere on our newswire as we gear up for the harshest months of winter. Cutting against that autumnal hardware, the Tokyo label looks to the vibrant kingfisher, a piece of both Japan and New York’s local ecosystem, for the color inspo. You can spot that in the vibrant hits of blue suede throughout the shoe and the teal foundation a layer below, further influencing a multicolor trim package that includes an orange midfoot shank, dark navy ABZORB units, and white underlays in the upper.
