Nike has proven its ability to take over sports moments without being the official sponsor, exemplified by multiple Olympic takeovers and plenty of smaller moments over the years. And while it might be fighting with one hand behind its back in those instances, some might say that forces the brand to be more creative and therefore produces cooler outcomes on the consumer side.
With the New York City Marathon set for November 1st, a New Balance-sponsored event, Nike is giving an on-point “NYC” makeover to the Vomero Premium. Lemon Venom “NYC” text replaces the shoe’s usual Uptempo-inspired “AIR” lettering on the lateral side, matched by an illuminating glow around the visible Zoom Air units within the midsole. The rest of the shoe, perhaps taking a page from the New Yorker’s traditional fashion go-to, cleans up in black.
Do note that while the timing of this release is obviously aligned with the marathon, the Vomero Premium is more of a high-mileage trainer than a race day shoe for serious competitors, doing without the carbon fiber plate typically thought of as essential for maximizing results. For casuals, though, these should hold up just fine.
The Nike Vomero Premium “NYC” releases soon via Nike for $240 in men’s sizing. Check out official images below if you’re considering copping.
