In the world of running shoes, shaving seconds off of mile times and getting the slightest edge over your competitors is the name of the game. With innovations like the Nike Apex, featuring a double-shot of Air units in its heel, that dynamic continues to play out for the Swoosh. But rather than pushing performance incrementally forward, Beaverton’s biggest step forward in 2026 might just come by slashing the price tag. Nike has just announced the Vegam Run, their first-ever running shoe designed specifically for the Indian market, featuring an ₹3750 MSRP.
It’s impossible to view this new product announcement in a vacuum, coming off the heels of Nike’s latest earnings call where CEO Elliott Hill announced that the Swoosh would be founding a headquarters in Bengaluru, India, aiming to strengthen their foothold in the world’s most populous country. Additionally, the company announced the start of a new “Pace” strategy, wherein they will focus on a more flexible operating model that aims to alleviate some of the headaches associated with a typical 18-month development model (the standard window associated with new footwear from ideation to product on shelves).
All of that comes to bear (relatively quickly, if we might add) with the Nike Vegam Run. Most notably, the gap between design brief and final product was just 55 days. Reportedly informed by insights gained by working with Indian athletes, the shoe focuses on both road performance and all-day comfort, aiming to be an all-in-one solve for both daily miles and daily wear overall. Given the approachable price point, it’s hard to imagine any pinnacle tech included here, but a lightweight mesh upper, stacked foam midsole, and hardy rubber promise to deliver on both durability and energy return.
In initial responses to Nike’s big bet on India, experts noted that the Swoosh would need to change their strategy to meet the demands of the Indian market, where the increasing retail prices of the brand’s premium offerings might clash with the cost-conscious footwear consumer. Clearly, that nuance wasn’t lost on the team; the Vegam Run might just be the answer to that problem.
The Nike Vegam Run is launching in India on November 1st, retailing at ₹3750 (approximately $39 USD). Pairs will be available via partnering retailers and on Flipkart. Additional markets will receive access to this new silhouette come 2027, though when exactly and which regions haven’t been fully laid out yet.
