Nike’s nods to Ken Griffey Jr. aren’t quite over just yet. Following both an Air Griffey Max 1 and a Vapormax Plus, the brand is adding an Air Max 90 to the collection. But rather than draw from his play or his interests, this pair focuses its sights on the athlete’s style as it specifically pays homage to the famous backwards cap.
Even down to the colorway, the offering remains on theme. Part-inspired by the sport itself and the Mariners, various hues and embellishments touch up the upper. For example, the collar displays an ornate stitch that resembles what’s found on a baseball. Forward, the panels aren’t quite as overt, mixing together a white base with grey quarter panels and black mudguards. Callbacks to the aforementioned team, then, arrive by way of the navy lining and the Northwest Green used throughout. The latter is taken up a notch further via the tongue label and insole whose matching “24” graphic is complemented by the titular backwards cap.
