The name “Tyrrell Winston” may not ring a bell, but if you’ve spent time in the intersection between art, sport and streetwear over the last decade, it’s likely you’ve come across a series of deflated, used basketballs arranged in gird-like patterns. If so, you know the New York-based artist’s work.
Having taken a stab at the Reebok Question Mid, Winston has recently teased a Club C as part of his upcoming collaboration with the Massachusetts-headquartered institution. Revealed via Instagram, the pair follows the simple white and black color palette seen on his mid-top Question, though it leans heavily on the former tone. Akin to previous efforts by JJJJound, Eames Office and Patta, Winston’s work doesn’t reinvent the tennis classic, instead opting to showcase the 30-something-year-old’s personality via slight updates. Smooth leather covers the upper, while a plusher fabric is applied to the inner-lining; heel panels follow suit in a faux fur. Profile windows are relieved of any branding, but the self-trained artist’s interpretation of the New York Yankees’ “NY” logo is printed onto the left shoe’s tongue label and sock-liner. Lastly, both shoes come together to showcase Tyrrell Winston’s signature visible via the translucent outsoles, a detail he once controversially added to a Michael Jordan-signed basketball.
Enjoy a first look at the pair here below, and anticipate the artist’s go-to studio shoe to release via Reebok.com soon.
In other sneaker news, the red Yeezy 350 v2 CMPCT is set to release on February 17th.
