Who would’ve known the world of basketball and sneakers would change on June 19th, 1984? While NIKE, Inc. had a strong feeling by signing Michael Jordan before he played a single game in the NBA, they definitely understand the magnitude of #23’s legacy as indicated by an all-new Air Jordan 1 Mid recognizing the legend’s accolades in his rookie season.
Clad in a Chicago Bulls-friendly color palette, the newly-surfaced retro makes a louder statement given the text found throughout its upper. Akin to Off-White‘s collaboration on the Air Jordan 2 Low, the upcoming Jordans don the G.O.A.T.’s signature, leaving panels at the lower heel to display important facts and stats like his date of birth, pick order in the ’84 NBA Draft and position played. The Air Jordan 1 “New Beginnings”-reminiscent offering features all of Michael Jordan’s professional accolades on the sock-liners, with “ROOKIE OF THE YEAR” stamped in big bold letters on the left shoe’s. As the pair serves as an educational opportunity for kids, the sneakers arrive in a reworked box inviting consumers to color in a silhouette of the Jordan 1.
No firm Nike.com launch details have been disclosed by the brand, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy official images of the pair ahead.
