In 2012 Kevin Durant began a yearly tradition through his signature line with The Swoosh, paying tribute to the life of his late Aunt Pearl who passed away in 2000 after battling lung cancer. From the Nike KD 4 to the Nike KD 15, a luxurious pink hue has proffered a heartfelt homage for Durant to share his Aunt’s presence and loving nature with the basketball community. Continuing to honor the impact of his family’s matriarchal figures, the latest KD 15 comes adorned with floral and velvet detailing in dedication to Durant’s Grandmother, Ms. Barbara A. Davis.
Affixed to the violet velour tongue, Durants Grandmother’s initials – “B.A.D” – flaunt an opulent cursive embroidery amidst a sea of purple hues, introducing the beginning stages of a full-fledged remembrance. Stitched onto the tongue’s medial side, the names of Ms. Davis’ grandchildren – “Tweety Byrd, Miggie, Deuce, Tony, Natalie, Nathan and Kevin” – pair with her friends’ names – codenamed “The Crew” – which appear along the insoles in observance of her legacy.
Rendering the upper in a premium clad amalgamation of the latter, a light “Space Purple” explores the mesh base layer and protective TPU caging across the midfoot while a slightly darker “Oxygen Purple” anchors the floral print found on its tongue and hang tag in tandem with its laces, sock liner and mudguard. Elsewhere, a luminous tint of “Purple Cosmos” outfits both the exterior and medial side Checks while underfoot, a solid white midsole interjects amidst the lilac garbed upper and translucent icy blue tread below which simultaneously enjoys a hidden away rose motif.
