adidas Is Releasing An Affordable Version Of Their $500 Running Shoe

Runners, rejoice. adidas is releasing a wallet-friendly takedown of their premier racing shoe on October 25th, bringing the cues of the PRO EVO 1 into a far more attainable daily trainer.

The new adidas Adizero EVO SL retails for $150, a considerable reduction from the $500 flagship model that helped Tola Tamirat win gold at the Paris Olympics this summer. While the PRO EVO 1 isn’t an option for most runners given its premium price, the EVO SL is a different story, set to compete against models like the Nike Pegasus 41 and HOKA and New Balance shoes in the sub-$200 range.

Of course, a reduction in price comes with a reduction in performance. To the uninitiated; the PRO EVO 1 is adidas’ lightest Adizero model to date, clocking in at just 138 grams in a men’s size 9 (US). In comparison, the EVO SL weighs 224 grams in that same size. While that’s a steep drop-off indeed, it’s more of a testament to the PRO EVO 1’s insanely light build than an indictment of the EVO SL. Notably, the Adios Pro 3 (which retails for $250) weighs a comparable 218 grams.

Underfoot, the EVO SL features a Lightstrike Pro midsole similar to that of the Adios Pro 3, delivering top-tier energy return. The top half is where the key differences take place, with a thicker and more padded mesh upper replacing the synthetic-heavy tooling of adidas’ premier race day runners.

Importantly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the EVO SL make rounds online. Although we didn’t know the name of the model at the time, Ronnie Fieg shared images of a potential KITH adidas EVO SL collab in early September.
