After Kawhi Leonard‘s tenure with both the San Antonio Spurs and the Jordan Brand ended tumultuously, questions arose regarding whether or not the quiet and not overly marketable superstar would ever get a lucrative sneaker contract. Now, as the leader of the Toronto Raptors – one of the hottest teams in the NBA – Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the The Claw has agreed to terms on an endorsement deal with New Balance. With the brand looking to re-enter the basketball space, Leonard will serve as the de facto face of the new line that will likely look to continue adding young talent to its roster, similar to how Puma began this season by signing names the likes of Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley. Details of the contract are currently scarce, but we do know that it is a multi-year agreement and that Leonard will join NBA prospect Darius Bazley – who is currently serving as an NB intern while he trains – on the up-start roster. Stay tuned for updates regarding this intriguing new partnership and tell us if you think Kawhi can help NB make waves in the basketball sneaker market.
