With the Air Max 90‘s year-long birthday celebration now in effect, we’ve seen many pairs inspired by the past — classic shape, OG colorways, etc. — and though we only recently set foot into 2020, it seems Nike is thinking much further ahead: seven decades to be exact. A futuristic tooling of a unique breed, the pair, dubbed fittingly as the Air Max 2090, pairs the general shape of its more time-worn inspiration with an aesthetic sleeker, obviously of man-made parts, and outfitted with heavily aggressive hardware. The exterior, which coincidently shares the material of Virgil Abloh’s upcoming AJ5, adds a grey synthetic film with a texture of subtle chainlink; adjacent are much sturdier, more opaque overlays of a ballistic mesh, matching somewhat with the fabrication affixed along the heel and tongue. Swooshes print in bubble whereas the original overlays while the sole unit, though at the front similar, grows with cascading platforms at its back just as the branded emblem found only a few inches upwards. Grab a detailed look at this triple black rendition right here and expect to see much more from the model at Nike.com and select shops as we arrive closer to Air Max Day.
