For years now, Nike has had a soft interest in taxi cabs — or, more accurately, the ubiquity of said taxi cabs. Back in the mid-2000s, the brand even celebrated some Japanese counterparts via the now extremely popular SB Dunk Low. Today, the inspiration isn’t found quite as commonly, but it’s soon to make a comeback via the GS Air Max 95 “City Special.”
A reboot in a sense, the offering dresses up as what many would consider to be the quintessential taxi cab. Yellow shades can be found all throughout the leather construction, even on the mesh that lines the foundation. Soles match as do the laces and tongue, while the eye stays, Nike branding, and added “NYC” tabs complete the inspiration via contrasted black neutrals. Elsewhere, a slight bit of orange tints within the Air unit and gilded text spells out the “City Special” moniker right atop the insole.
