Rappers working in collaboration with sneaker companiaes has grown from the original G-Unit x Reebok joints back in 2004 to the unstoppable phenomena that is the Nike Air Yeezy. Kanye wore his signature kicks on tour for about a year prior to their release to build the hype and it turns out the same is true of Mos Def.
An extension of his work with Undercrown, Mos’ signature midtop adidas is clearly influenced by the album art from Dead Prez’ 2004 album, RBG:Revolutionary but Gangsta. It features the signature red, black and green paisley ‘bandana’ design on the midsole, along with a ton of other textures on the side panels, tongue and lining. SneakerFreaker recently got up with Undercrown director Dustin Canalin, who designed Mos Def’s line for UNDRCRWN as well as the adidas kicks. You can read the interview there and then cop the Mos Def by Dustin Canalin collection from Undercrown and KarmaLoop.
