While they’re not exactly setting the pace for collaborations like their breakneck stretch in 2009, it’s undeniable that Solebox is causing a stir once again in early 2012. While their peers in the Reebok Workout 25th Anniversary capsule have largely kept to familiar themes, Solebox’ Hikmet Sugoer went out on a limb with his ‘Tilapia’ design, and don’t you dare forget about the role Solebox played in resurrecting the silhouette pictured above (and really, the entire Asics brand, in the context of the sneakerhead set). That’s when they droped a UV-color-changing Solebox x Asics Gel Lyte III whose release foreshadowed both the rise of grey sneakers as well as the super-limited collabs that followed in the next year or so. This new pair utilizes a similar though slightly simpler colorblocking pattern on a black base, but the reference to 08’s trendsetting tonal grey design also reminds us that not only is this pair equipped with multiple pairs of laces, but there’s also a grey edition on the way sometime this year (along with what look to be Gel Sagas in both styles). When will we see the Asics x Solebox 2012 release dates? Stick with Sneaker News for updates and let us know if the blue ones outdo the citrus laces we’d seen earlier.
