John Wall is one of the rare athletes that’s had a signature sneaker at more than one brand. His forgettable tenure at Reebok gave the world that bulky Zigtech technology which made his time at adidas favorable by comparison. Reebok even terminated the 5 year $25 million deal after Wall continued to suffer injuries in his third year, freeing up the point guard to switch to parent company adidas where he’s since become an All-Star and one of the more electric players in the NBA. But with only two adidas J Wall models under his belt, Wall could now be leaving adidas for either Under Armour or Nike Basketball. His contract expired all the way back in late September and while Wall continues to wear his adidas J Wall 2 during games, he’s been spotted in Nike during Wizards practices.
Under Armour will make a push to sign Wall too given the brand’s need to expand its basketball reach after the immense success of Steph Curry’s signature line. UA has a strong presence in the D.C. area given their headquarters in nearby Baltimore so Wall’s close proximity could be beneficial for both parties. A second All-Star would give the UA Basketball a boost in legitimacy seeing as how the second biggest athlete on their roster right now is most likely rookie Emmanuel Mudiay. As for Nike Basketball, one has to wonder if they have the flexibility to give Wall the added attention he’s known as a signature athlete. The Swoosh currently has plans for Paul George, and with Anthony Davis on their roster, there’s only so much signature shoe love that can go around – even James Harden wasn’t a priority long enough to be awarded his own shoe. It’s worth noting that Wall did play for Kentucky, a school familiar with perks from Nike Basketball. Where do you want to see Wall end up?
