Long before the first adidas YEEZY shoes came to light, there were some rumors that Kanye West’s involvement with adidas footwear design would stretch out to performance silhouettes, and with fellow Chicago native Derrick Rose being one of the brand’s signature athletes, the connection seemed to be rather fluid. Nothing has come from that front so far, but things might change now that adidas and Kanye West have extended their partnership to include performance models among other things.
During adidas Hoops’ #LVL3 media event in Las Vegas yesterday, we got to speak with Harden, Lillard, Rose, and Wiggins about shoes and more, each one of those athletes have confirmed that they’ve never outright spoken to Kanye about a signature shoe design, and that if it wheels on that would ever get rolling, it would have to be initiated on the YEEZY side. Still, a Kanye x adidas Hoops design seems inevitable given the fashion/culture icon’s affinity for the game of basketball (and the fact that a Kanye-designed Rose or Harden shoe would be insane).
