Nike SF-AF1: Behind The Design With Nike Sportswear’s Ben Kirschner

2 new pairs of the incredibly popular Nike SF-AF1 are available for purchase today ranging from the military-inspired Nike SF-AF1 “Desert Camo” and the Nike SF-AF1 “Grey” featuring premium pre-cracked leather throughout. While most of you will be trying to grab the camouflage rendition, Nike SNKRS has gotten a little creative with an added feature leading up to unlocking a chance to buy a pair. If you head to the Nike SNKRS mobile app, you’ll have to scratch off a screen as if it were a lottery ticket, unearthing Ben Kirschner’s head-turning design.

Nike has also released a new ‘Behind The Design’ feature on the Nike SF-AF1 with an interview with Kirschner. Unreleased sample images show the process of creating the unique design while new colors of that signature paracord military strap possibly hint at more colorways coming in the future. “It was fusing two of our most iconic shoes for the winter – the SFB, which is our predominantly winter shoe, and then, the Air Force 1. Even though it’s not a boot, a lot of people use the AF1 as a winter shoe because of its rugged and indestructible qualities, so I thought it would be cool to bring those two worlds together,” says Kirschner.

“In the very beginning, there was no specific brief for this shoe. It was just something I made in the sample room. And initially, it had a crepe sole.” You can see the crepe sole in these sample images featuring a darker woodland camouflage colorway, one we’d love to see hit retailers. Check out more detailed shots below and good luck trying to find yourself a pair this weekend.
