The reigning NBA MVP Russell Westbrook will be wearing Jordan Brand for a long time coming. According to Nick DePaula of ESPN, Westbrook signed a 10-year contract extension with the Jumpman brand, the richest athlete deal ever in the history of Jordan Brand. Terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed, but the deal will retroactively include the 2016-2017 season. Westbrook was still in the middle of his current contract with Jordan Brand – a five-year deal signed in 2013.
Perhaps the most intriguing development is that Russell Westbrook will finally receive his own on-court performance signature shoe. Westbrook already an off-court lifestyle-geared signature shoe called the Westbrook 0.1 and Westbrook 0.2, which was met with lukewarm reception. Another incentive to the deal is that Jordan Brand will make annual donations to Westbrook’s “Why Not?” Foundation in OKC and Southern LA. Additionally, this new deal includes an “ambassador clause”, which stretches Westbrook and Jordan Brand’s partnership after retirement.
Expect Russell Westbrook to start the NBA season in the Air Jordan 32.
