A growing branch in the future of Nike Air Max history is centered on the practice of “sole-swapping” Air Max units. Air Max Day 2017 brought that idea to the forefront as Nike tapped a number of “RevolutionAir” creatives from around the globe to create their own Air Max hybrid concoctions and made them battle it out in a public vote. However, this is hardly new to Nike as they’ve dabbled in these simple hybrids for over a decade. 2006’s “One Time Only” Pack saw Nike’s new Air Max 2006 unit paired with the Air Max 90, 95, and 97, and since then we’ve seen these straightforward swaps to little fanfare.
It appears that Nike is not only re-issuing these models, but also introducing new styles like this Air Max 97 Plus. It’s the perfect bridge to what’s probably coming next year – another year-long anniversary celebration of the marquee Air Max model of twenty years ago. For those who can’t wait til ’98, the NikeLab Air Max 97 Plus is set for a release next Thursday, October 12th.
