Ross Dwyer Upon its initial release, the Nike Vapormax 2019 provided an unusual-but-welcome deviation from the Vapormax Flyknit line’s trademark aesthetic. Now, it’s back once again in a colorway that offers a slight nod to a model that was well ahead of its time when it first arrived to great fanfare in the ’90s: the Sergio Lozano-designed Air Max 95 “Neon.” The TPE upper is dressed in a dark charcoal grey, while tonal accents are provided via stark black stripes on the upper’s taped seams. Bold volt details on the Swoosh, tongue, and heel’s repeating text branding then pop vividly off their murky background. Moving down below, the heel clip and podular cushioning unit are then both dressed in a jet black to lock in the shoe’s speedy look.
