Giannis Antetokoumpo’s Family Decorates The Nike Zoom Freak 1 Signature Shoe

Nike Basketball’s next saga officially begins on July 10th as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Nike Zoom Freak 1 signature shoe is set to release in stores. Dubbed the “Greek Freak” for his otherworldly physique and style of play, Giannis has emerged as one of the true elite stars of the game, fully deserving of the prestige that comes with owning a Nike signature shoe. For the first model, Nike implemented a laundry list of tributes to his tight knit family, starting with his parents’ names Charles and Veronica on the medial midsole and “I Am My Father’s Legacy” inscribed in the outsole. The rose petal traction is also inspired by a Greek tradition of keeping flowers inside the home, which Giannis’ mother did after the tragic passing of his father in 2017. The four internal bands at the forefoot represent him and his brothers, while the custom “34” logo on the heel represents his jersey number and the Greek flag.

The Nike Freak 1 has a 5/8th cut and was built to have the snug lockdown of a Nike Kobe shoe with the traction of the Kyrie shoe – a direct reflection to Giannis’ athletic and multi-directional style of play. Double-stacked Zoom cushioning at the heel also adds additional support for the “big man” frame, although the shoe was built equally for speed. Expect this black/white/lucid green colorway to hit stores on July 10th for $120.
