Throughout the entirety of 2019, we’ve been able to catch a glimpse of Vans’ most playful side, watching from the sidelines as they fully reveal a strong assortment of collaborators and their unabashed penchant for patchwork motifs. Brought back to the spotlight thanks to the help of Billy’s Tokyo as well as California’s RHUDE, the Bold Ni silhouette shines on center stage once again in what is one of the most refined displays of the brand’s now signature style. Five individual fabrications make up the panels of the entire construction, separating cleanly and overtly at its seams. Heel counters take up a sartorial houndstooth in monochrome black and white, laterals opt for America’s favorite lightwash denim, and medials take on sturdy beige canvas. Their accents — both the Jazz Stripe as well as the white sole unit detailed by dotted lines at the foxing — are mostly neutral in comparison to the aforementioned yet all of the above barely match the eccentricity of the cheetah print and bright red tartan plaid found right down the center line.
