Jovani Hernandez After having been kept in the vault for over 20 years, the Nike Air Max Triax 96 retroed in its original “University Red” and “Varsity Blue” outfits just a couple of months back. Now, two previously seen colorways dress up the cult-classic in a style both equal parts heritage and trendy. Keeping the same smooth white leather and black suede overlays from the original, these iterations add purple and red mesh to each respective pair’s uppers. The shoe’s signature mesh tongue also dons either the scarlet or violet hue and is only contrasted by the black “AIR” tab uptop. Elsewhere on the “Gym Red” version, blue accents appear on Swoosh branding at the heel and outsole; the “Voltage Purple” pair opts for an orange color at these same points, but adds the leather swoosh tab on the mesh toe box into the mix. White midsoles with more proportionate visible Air-units than its ’90s counterparts cushion both these runners with a strike of each pair’s principal color curved around them.
