Spanish retailer, sivasdescalzo (SVD), has recently unveiled its first-ever collaboration with ASICS. The canvas?: The ever-popular ASICS GEL-Lyte III.
Beyond reimagining Shigeyuki Mitsui’s iconic 31-year-old design with a new colorway and its branding, SVD has envisioned a new chapter for the split-tongue silhouette via an environmentally-conscious manufacturing process. Uppers are laden with textured fabrics and recycled elements, including a plant-based “Angora Stonewash” cotton-and-linen blend, lace fabric made entirely out of jute and naturally dyed leather from leftover sneaker waste. SVD’s eco-friendly approach to the GEL-Lyte III isn’t isolated to the shoe’s top-half, given that cushioning comprises of scrap foam from other footwear products. Furthermore, the gum outsole is produced from natural latex without compromising durability and comfort. The retailer’s signature “S|V|D” logo is embroidered onto the lateral heel while bottom heel areas are stamped with the brand’s emblem. Lastly, the shoes arrive in recyclable packaging.
