Among the most significant streetwear labels to come out of the city, Awake NY has long-captured the hearts of ASICS devotees with their collaborative works. But seldom does founder Angelo Baque take center stage, preferring to support his brand from the sidelines. That, however, will soon change as Baque has just unveiled a personal project focused entirely on the newly revived GEL-KAYANO 14.
Pictured in the hand of its creator, the collaboration shines the silhouette through a colorful lens, one far more retro-inspired than that of Kiko Kostadinov’s UB1-S. Saturated blues meet equally loud pops of orange, while yellow hits and cool-tinged GEL dress below. Silver metallic panels, then, balance along the outer edge, imparting a Y2K essence across the counter, eye stay, and forefoot. Dark grey mesh and black accents sit quietly in the background unlike Angelo Baque’s name, which stamps along the backside in a style reminiscent of Awake’s signature font.
Enjoy a quick sneak peek here and expect more release details to surface very soon.
In other news, a Bad Bunny Response CL is on the way.
