Jovani Hernandez Between 1993 and 2011, fans of the National Basketball Association were able to play as their favorite hoopers in NBA Jam, an arcade game-turned-console franchise. And while the series has been replaced by NBA2K, it continues to hold a special place in many sports fans’ hearts due to its wacky graphics and memorable announcing. On August 30th, Converse is set to bring a piece of the game to shoe form with three collaborative pairs.
Made up of a Chuck 70, Pro Leather and third undisclosed silhouette, the upcoming capsule features logos and catchphrases sure to immediately transport wearers to NBA Jam’s heyday. The traditionally-canvas model indulges in a court-inspired brown complemented by an enlarged version of the video game’s logo. By contrast, the full-leather option features a predominantly-black aesthetic that’s overshadowed by both the pixelated frame attached to the lateral side chevron logo and teal “HE’S ON FIRE” message just before Converse’s iconic star branding. Sole units on both propositions allow the shoes’ top-halves to revel in the spotlight, although the Chuck 70’s boasts an all-blue outsole. There’s no word as to what the third included pair is in the collaborative project, but it’ll likely be a modern-day basketball shoe (maybe the Converse G4).
