Michael Jordan may not be lauded for his time playing minor league baseball, but the Chicago Bulls legend hasn’t allowed that to keep him from fondly harkening back to his tenure with the Birmingham Barons and Scottsdale Scorpions.
For the latest Jordan Series .01, a lifestyle sneaker inspired by the game Jordan’s father wanted his son to play, NIKE, Inc. has introduced a rust-like effect to the mostly-canvas upper. The words “DEAR COACH” appear on the lateral mid-foot and tongue label, a nod to Terry Francona. The exact moment or thing that informed the reddish brown design cue hasn’t been disclosed, but messaging on the sock-liner and outsole suggest the backstory originates from the two years MJ stepped away from the NBA. In any case, the shoe is yet another testament to #23’s (or #45 in baseball) storied legacy.
