In 1982, New Balance debuted a technical running sneaker under the 990 banner. Nearly 40 years later, the low-top mesh and suede model has spawned a handful of successors, with the latest to honor its legacy via the “Made 990 Version Series” being the New Balance 990v3.
Unveiled earlier in the year, NB’s “Made” collection returns each 990v”X” proposition to its original greyscale form. The high-quality products that’ve become synonymous with the New England institution are employed across all models, which have already included the inaugural 990 and its 990v2 follow-up. The 990v3’s entry into the capsule delivers a much more muted take than its recent collaboration with Joe Freshgoods. Yet, its collection-specific red branding on the tongue, as well as the “VERSION 3” tab on the lateral profile, interrupt the dad-endorsed sneaker’s predominantly grey color scheme. Given that it debuted in 2012 to celebrate the New Balance 990‘s 30th anniversary, it’s fitting that the model has returned to the spotlight ahead of its predecessor’s milestone 40th anniversary.
Enjoy detailed images of the pair here below, and anticipate a global NewBalance.com release date following a launch in Canada on September 10th.
