Sneaker News After a ceremonious debut in 2020, the New Balance 550 his fluidly entered its stride in 2021 as the mid/late-80s basketball shoe released in a wide assortment of colorways throughout the year. Whether it be an in-line offering, like the recent college-style colorways that mimicked the popular Syracuse and UNC look, or the collaborative projects with the likes of Rich Paul and AURALEE, no 550 release was left behind as it enjoyed its spot in the tier of must-have retro footwear models.
We expect 2022 to be no different. In fact, New Balance will likely step on the gas in the new year as it looks to further establish its own heritage icon in the basketball world while introducing the New Balance 650 later this year. And as long as the colorways look good, like this upcoming off white, burgundy, and aqua blue offering, the 550 will definitely not lose steam. More collaborations will likely be in the mix as well, and even a potentially third generation of ALD colorways, so stay tuned to see what’s planned for the New Balance 550 in 2022.
