There’s no denying that figures the likes of Bad Bunny and Beyoncé have helped the adidas Forum garner attention over the last two years, but the made-for-basketball silhouette has been a favorite of savvy sneaker collectors since the 1980s. For its latest ensemble, the hoops-staple-turned-street-style-icon has emerged in a “worn” arrangement that nods to its past.
Akin to dozens of custom adidas Originals silhouettes that’ve graced Instagram feeds everywhere over the past 24 months, the newly-surfaced Forum ’84 High indulges in a manufactured “beat” look that taps into the “Neo-Vintage” trend that’s dominated some sneaker-related conversations since the tail-end of 2019. The Three Stripes’ classic silhouette opts for the same color-blocking with which it debuted more than 35 years ago, though the mix of white and yellow that takes over the pair’s upper is accompanied by “wear and tear” marks. Paint “fading” and “scuffs” across the sneakers unquestionably promote the “Neo-Vintage” design approach, but they’re arguably overshadowed by the yellow midsole and its “dusty” outsole kin. Together, each aforementioned component help connect the present to the past in a much more accurate and compelling way than usual, and more pairs featuring the design are likely to follow.
No official adidas.com release date has been disclosed by the brand, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy product shots of the pair ahead.
Elsewhere under the adidas banner, all-black Yeezy Slides are expected to arrive before 2022 ends.
