Michael Le Despite being one of ASICS’ most affordable models, the GEL-1090 has joined the likes of high-end brands ROKH and Andersson Bell. And soon, it’ll continue this trend alongside KASSL Editions, who have redressed the shoe in honor of the Japanese footwear brand’s “Crafts for Minds” program.
The “refined yet unpolished” aesthetic that co-founder Bart Ramakers previously spoke about takes shape here. Many parts of the collaboration’s construction is true to the original silhouette, lacking any frayed edges or intentional distressing. But the toe is entirely covered with a protective sheath, whose oil fabric is finished in either a bright, bold green or a neutral off-white. This material, then, oozes over the side of the midsole, effectively bonding itself to the shoe in a way almost organic.
