Chris Gibbs and his Union Los Angeles team have solidified themselves as one of NIKE, Inc.’s most exciting partners over the last handful of years. As they put the final touches on their Air Jordan 2 duo, the West Coast-based creatives have unveiled the Nike Dunk Low “Passport Pack,” which features three colorways inspired by three global destinations.
Officially announced via a short film and with a “Your ticket to the world” tagline, Gibbs and company’s upcoming collaboration borrows a number of details from boarding passes, government documentation and LA, New York City and Tokyo – cities in which Union has had a presence and that have been largely influential in streetwear, sneakers and the general pursuit of aspirations. With a faint green base, the Nike Dunk covered in “Midnight Navy” and “Marine Minuit” ostensibly nods to the “Big Apple”: grid-covered nylon panels across the upper share colors with the Statue of Liberty and MTA subway cars. As has become customary, golden “UN/LA” tabs are attached to the lateral profile swoosh, while the boutique’s Walter Lee Younger-inspired logo lands on the heel. Stitching throughout the pair appears “undone,” but it’s a calculated choice by Gibbs and team to both promote the collection’s travel theme and match the shoe box. Lastly, semi-translucent outsoles reveal a larger, greener version of Union’s “The Frontman” figure.
An official release date hasn’t been confirmed by Gibbs nor Nike, but unionlosangeles.com and Nike SNKRS releases are expected for February. In any case, enjoy some official images of the shoes here below (only a select few have been loaded).
