Louis De Guzman Honors His Mother With The New Balance 574 “Ma Divina”

With Louis De Guzman’s latest New Balance collaboration, the Filipino-American artist is honoring his mother, who would arrange floral bouquets for craft shows across the Chicagoland area. Entitled “Ma Divina,” this color-rich take on the 574 is a rose-tinted lens into Guzman’s childhood, which ultimately inspired his now burgeoning artistic career.

“As a child, my mother would attend local craft shows and put her creative flow to work to help make ends meet,” Guzman stated. “It was her way to openly express herself and share the inner thought process through her various love of DIY crafts and flower arrangements. Her love for detail and exposing me to that energy as a child helped broaden my perspective and amplified the artistry that I’m beyond humbled to be continuing to put forth each and every day.”

The colorway mirrors the work of Guzman’s mother, though the petals are swapped out for leather and suede. Floral in essence, the 574-shaped bouquet joins hits of violet with a light, sky blue, while brighter pinks complement along the heel tab and the rim of the tongue. Orange shades, then, highlight the “N” logo along the side, marking a high note of a palette rounded out by neutrals by a neutral-dressed base, midsole, and the like.
