Before becoming a pillar of the sneaker boutique movement in the 2000s, Derek Curry first devoted himself to the Armed Forces in 1999. In 2003, he was deployed to Iraq; it was that nine-month experience where he learned some pivotal life lessons and formed core values that would later serve as the backbone of Sneaker Politics, one of the most respected retail stores in the world. As a show of gratitude to those who have valiantly signed up to serve the country, Sneaker Politics dedicates its ASICS GEL-Lyte III collaboration around a theme inspired by his unit’s motto, “Toujours Prêt” — meaning “Always Ready”.
Dressed in a distinct colorway of army green, the ASICS GEL-Lyte III “Always Ready” features a bevy of military-themed details such as the name tape on the heel and swatches of the stars and stripes seen under the torn mesh at the toe-box. Special shoe-box packaging come attached to this collaboration, as do extra laces and dog-tags.
This collaboration is officially set to release in-store at all Sneaker Politics locations on May 28th, while an online release is scheduled for May 30th at 10am ET. Sneaker Politics will devote the Wounded Warrior Project and the Lone Survivor Foundation. Both are non-profit organizations that help veterans and active-duty service members.
