Without M. Frank Rudy, the inception of the Air Max bubble and Nike’s most popular cushioning system wouldn’t exist. The designer holding experience in aerospace engineering was intrigued by how to package air underfoot for enhanced responsiveness, resulting in decades of iconic silhouettes and reconstructed variations gracing the entirety of the color palette.
In keeping with their collection dedicated to the man who made AIR possible, the Nike Vapormax Flyknit 2021 is paying homage to the late aeronautical engineer with an aged-white and golden yellow combination.
The muted shade of the upper includes dashes of red, blue and yellow Flyknit stitching from the recycled content process as the laces, inner lining and concurring pull tabs follow suit in the colorless tone. Identical to the collections past Air Max 97 variations, the insoles feature blueprint sketches of the aforementioned model alongside a “NIKE AIR” branded California license plate tag. Below, the honey gold hue commands the synthetic heel counter and translucent full-length Zoom bag with a lighter shaded Swoosh placed in the mid-foot while the exterior portions of the tread render ground-up rubber following the brand’s recycled content pledge.
