It’s no secret that the Three Stripes is pushing the adidas Gazelle model well into 2023. In addition to its own reworked versions of the decades-old design, the German sportswear behemoth has tapped longtime collaborators for the effort. Case in point?: Yohji Yamamoto and his Y-3 imprint.
adidas Y-3 may no longer boast the cachet it did in the past, but the industry-leading partnership may have a hit on its hands with two newly-surfaced takes on the Gazelle. Clad in off-white and black tonal arrangements, the adidas Originals propositions feature premium suede throughout their upper, which also sees an extended mudguard and the midsole panels covered in the material. Contrast arrives sparingly, appearing most prominently on the black pair’s upper heel; branding on the lateral profile follows suit. In addition to the layered modification along the tongue, Yamamoto adds exposed stitching to the sidewalls, creating iconic 3-Stripes logos in the process. Elsewhere, excess threads throughout the shoes are left to dangle gracefully wherever they fall.
