No stranger to dipping back into the archives, Nike has been targeting a number of Japan-exclusives from the turn of the century (otherwise known as the heralded co.jp release). Dunks, Air Jordan 1s, and Air Force 1s have been the usual suspects in the well-received retro movement, but it’s time to welcome a new player to the field.
In comes 2002’s Nike Blazer Mid “Denim”, a co.jp release from 2002. It’s worth noting that Blazers are very hard to come by in the early 2000s, and most of Nike Sportswear retro experiments were relegated to the smaller yet more impactful market in Japan as a larger scale release wasn’t entirely feasible in the states. This 2023 version of the Blazer Mid ’77 “Denim” has its obvious similarities (the dark blue denim twill) and differences (no two-toned denim upper, white heel/laces, or red accents), but we can’t help but feel that morsel of nostalgia. And while these are hardly a proper re-issue of any sort, hopefully Nike sees the opportunity to bring back other Blazer gems from that era (particularly the Stussy collabs).
These in-line releases will be available on Nike.com soon; see official images ahead.
