The Superstar is, without question, one of the Three Stripes’ most recognizable sneakers, sharing history with icons the likes of Run DMC. Even Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 has recently taken in the silhouette as one of their own, reimagining its design in a way elevated yet still faithful to the original. And alongside a blacked out style, said model will be releasing later this year in a simple, “Unity Ink” colorway.
Save for a few details, the adidas Y-3 Superstar is not too dissimilar to the original. Its materials, though, are a stark improvement from the pair’s inline counterpart, offering high quality suedes through much of the construction. The cap toe and midsole, in contrast, are done up in a way much more familiar, clad in a textured white finish akin to the GRs we’re well-accustomed to.
Beyond the “Y-3” markings, the shoe does distinguish itself in its darning, whose threads — which accent the heel tab as well as the stripes along the side — extend beyond their natural endpoint, hanging just barely off the ground. This is possibly a subtle reference to past Yohji Yamamoto x adidas collaborations, such as the Y’s x adidas Super Position or the Y’s x adidas Stan Smith.

In other news, the Nike GPS Field Brown is releasing later this week.
