Sneaker News Nike Basketball is having a moment. In addition to delivering cutting-edge performance shoes for the hardwood, the team has also been updating some of its classics from the past for old and new audiences alike. Case in point?: A Nike Air Penny 2 “EMB.”
Read as “Embedded,” the special style of “Penny” Hardaway’s second signature sneaker nods to the aspects, moments, and places essential to basketball’s history. (In the past, the “EMB” collection has commemorated Harlem’s Holcombe Rucker Park, for example.) The specific detail that inspired the latest Air Penny 2 isn’t as obvious as past offerings, but the series’ basketball logo appears on the sock-liners. Perhaps the sneakers’ mostly white ensemble speaks to the clean slate a hooper has at the start of a game. Maybe it nods to the NBA’s strict footwear regulations of the past. Regardless of the style’s backstory, Hardaway’s shoe remains fresh.
Enjoy an official look at the pair ahead. The clean Nike Penny is likely to hit nike.com stateside before summer hits for $200 USD.
In related sneaker news, the Air Jordan 11 “DMP” from 2006 is rumored to return for the holidays.
