As exemplified by the label’s Air Jordan 5 Low as well as their several Air Max 1s, CLOT is constantly referencing Chinese culture with every collaborative release. Their latest project with Nike, the aptly-named “CLOTEZ,” is certainly no exception, as it draws upon Tai Chi as well as the Yin-Yang philosophy that lies at the ancient martial art’s core.
Yin and Yang, though equally fundamental to CLOT, serves as the foundation for Tai Chi. Edison Chen, in an effort to explore the “fluidity and change” that runs deep through the martial art’s practice, has teamed up with local talent Harry Wong, whose Nike: On Air contest entry — the Air Max 270 “Kung Fu Soul” — serves as the central inspiration for the “CLOTEZ.”
A transformable, 3-in-1 design, the CLOT x Nike “CLOTEZ” embodies Yin and Yang in two main ways. Alongside echoing the black-on-white duality, the model features the very symbol across its drawstring fastener. References to Kung Fu are equally overt, with the characters that represent the art embroidered onto the heel. What’s more, the collaboration can be worn as is or separated into two separate pieces: one is meant for the indoors, boasting a design much closer to the original Cortez; the other, a slip-on, draws more direct cues from Kung Fu shoes.

In other news, the Air Jordan 1 Royal Reimagined is now expected to release during the Holiday 2023 season.
