Alexis Sablone Debuts Her First Converse Signature Silhouette: The CONS AS-1 Pro

Alexis Sablone is more than just one of the best skateboarders in the World. She’s a multi-hyphenate; an architect, an Olympic athlete, an artist, a designer, an animator, a sculptor and now, the latest athlete to be named to the Converse signature family.

Joining the CONS roster of riders in January of 2019, Sablone has been a staple in the skate scene since becoming the breakout star of “PJ Ladd’s Wonderful, Horrible, Life” 2002 skate video. On May 2nd, the seven-time X Games medalist will officially release her first-ever signature shoe, the CONS AS-1 Pro.

Graduating from MIT with a master’s in architecture, the Connecticut native’s first signature silhouette isn’t her first time behind the knife of Converse models. A year after signing the brand, she unveiled the “Designed By Alexis Sablone” collection, featuring the One Star Pro, Louie Lopez Pro and Purcell Pro all reimagined to her performance-based specifications.

Standing next to just a handful of industry-breaking women who’ve helmed their own skate silhouettes – Cara Beth-Burnside’s 1994 Vans and Lacey Baker’s Nike SB Bruin High – the CONS AS-1 Pro is touted as the Boston brand’s most innovative performance shoe to date.

Having crafted graphics for skateboard brand WKND and erecting skateable sculptures in Sweden, Sablone’s extensive background in the mechanics of design proffered a true hand-in-hand collaborative experience. Influenced by the aesthetic of the brand’s clad-leather basketball shoes from the ’80s, the AS-1 Pro comes infuses a ’90s-inspired sole unit with an entirely leather upper layered with jutting rubber pods for visible durability. Featuring asymmetrical branding, the influential rider’s name comes embossed at the tongue above a globe vector while AS-1 comes additionally imprinted along the collar.

Exploring an engineered coring system, Sablone’s inaugural offering debuts the first cup sole tooling within the brand’s performance skateboarding line, providing instant impact protection while maintaining that pristine board feel of which Converse has become synonymous with throughout the decades. Simultaneously boasting a herringbone traction patterned outsole refined to her assessments and wear testing, the model is finished with the pairing of a CX Foam sockliner and rubber lateral sidewalls for a versatile range of skateboarding styles.

While the debut white and green silhouette will release next Tuesday in a full-grain leather construction, the AS-1 Pro is set to unveil an extended range of traditional textures and color blockings such as the upcoming June 2nd release of the suede and nubuck dominant “Cream/Burgundy” and “Black/White” colorways. Set to release for a retail price of $80, enjoy official imagery of the CONS AS-1 Pro below.
