Throughout its history, the Swoosh has been obsessed with innovation. Although this obsession has resulted in new product types and categories, it’s also updated existing iconic projects. Case in point?: The Nike Air Max 97 Futura.
Previously seen in Grade School sizing, the modified take on Christian Greaser’s era-defining design has recently appeared for adults. The shoe boasts its 26-year-old blueprint, but complements it with a number of new details worthy of the “Futura” modifier. Uppers rid themselves of the sleek, straight lines inspired by natural erosion in exchange for an updated set of materials laid out in a busier manner. And while eye-catching in its own right, the Air Max 97’s boldest update is arguably the sole unit.
The full-length Air Max bubble underfoot revolutionized the footwear industry when it debuted in 1997, but under the “Futura” banner, the unit receives a taller enclosure. The traction also gets a more aggressive arrangement, distancing the shoe from its performance-running origins.
No firm nike.com launch details have been shared by the brand, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy official photos of the pair ahead.
