Updated January 12th, 2024: A first look at the Nike KD 4 “Weatherman” Retro has been revealed. The shoes are expected to release during the Summer 2024 season with a $130 MSRP.
Kevin Durant is a veteran in the NBA. Although he’s been plagued by durability issues over the past several seasons, the Washington D.C.-native continues to have one of the most grounded signature sneaker lines in the league.
As the world awaits for a retail launch of the Nike KD 16, Durant and his Swoosh family have been teasing retro styles of earlier signature models. Back in February, the longtime partners reissued the KD 3 “All-Star” from 2011. Widespread fanfare welcomed the special pair, but some netizens took to social media to express their desire for a reissue of the Nike KD 4. Over the last seven months, several rumors about some of the KD 4’s most popular styles returning have circulated. Recently, reliable sneaker leakers have shared that the sneaker’s “Weatherman” take will return in 2024.
Durant has told numerous stories via his Nike KD line, with some narratives following him throughout the majority of his career (see: “Aunt Pearl” KD 16). The “Weatherman” theme debuted on the KD 4 back in 2011, playfully telling the story of Durant’s childhood aspirations: “I always wanted to be a weatherman growing up,” he told Nice Kicks 12 years ago. The “Weatherman” KD 4 was also appropriate for the era, nodding to the “Slim Reaper”‘s ability to “make it rain” – he was fresh off two back-to-back scoring titles when the sneaker debuted.
It’s unclear whether or not the retro will arrive with performance-based modifications à la Nike Kobe Protro series, but the brand’s recent string of faithful retros suggests Durant’s meteorologist-appropriate shoe will bring clear skies to countless fans of the model whenever it drops.
Enjoy campaign imagery of the original “Weatherman” KD 4 ahead, and anticipate nike.com release details as Summer 2024 inches closer.
