Jared Ebanks Throughout the summer season, the New Balance 991 relied heavily on the use of suede exteriors, adding a dash of elegance to the running staple from 2001. Recently, the ABZORB-cushioned model reverted back to its supple leather treatment featuring pitch-dark undertones.
The latest 991 explores an overtly darkened aesthetic, curing the dominant tumbled leather nubuck overlays in “Magnet” while a deep “Vulcan” blue accents the synthetic base layer. Metallic “Smoked Pearl” shades contrast the mid-foot N logo, heel counter and back half of the midsole, adding a repeating tonal transition as a cream-white tone cures the latter half of the sole unit in conclusion.
