Jared Ebanks PUMA and Rihanna first teamed up to a raucous amount of acclaim in 2014, serving as the German sportswear brand’s creative director of womenswear. After the partnership quietly dissolved in 2017, the nine-time Grammy Award winner took to Instagram back in March to announce the official return of her footwear collaborations with the brand. This week, Rih’s first pack will be revealed in the form of the FENTY x PUMA Avanti.
Plucked from the archives after gracing the pitch with Pelé and Johan Cryuff in 1968, Rihanna reimagines the classic silhouette through the lens of the contemporary reissue of the circa ’98 Jil Sander King. Here, RiRi has infused the model with both a classic composition and a futuristic ethos. Smooth jet-black leather dresses one of the offerings, complimented by a striking set of cream accents that amplify the gold foil folded tongue, Formstrip and midsole. What’s more, a rustic orange contrast imbues the low-top trim with a layered palette within the inner lining and lugged tread underfoot.
A premium patent leather finish cures the reflective “Aged Silver” effort, mimicking the luminous nature of Rihanna’s set design. A gum tread simultaneously accompanies the eye-catching ensemble in tandem with further FENTY branding while dark grey accents at the laces and collar lining only accentuate the surrounding metallic silver upper.
