After Taylor Swift pulled up to the Kansas City Chiefs game in a pair of “Team Red” New Balance 550s, the Basketball Oxford has quickly been shot into the highly-touted atmosphere of the adidas Samba and Nike Dunk. With Swifties taking to online retailers just as fast as they approached Ticketmaster presales, the Boston-based brand is expanding the offerings of its circa 1989 silhouette with this suede-centric collection.
Ditching its synonymous dominant leather upper for a supple suede tooling, the low top trim retains its mesh base layer for a truly plush feeling. Treating the hairy textile to a quartet of colorways; “Nori”, “Mushroom”, “Slate Grey” and “Arctic Grey”, an accenting lighter tint consumes the complimenting mesh pockets for a completely tonal treatment. Elsewhere, the pairs begin to connect with a through line of “Macadamia Nut” composed outsoles, which highlight the crisp white midsole and various colorless branding embellishments strewn about the ensemble.
The New Balance 550 “Suede Pack” is scheduled to release on September 29th for a retail price of $110. In the meantime, each pair can be seen in detailed imagery below alongside our accompanying store list.
In other news, the Ja 1 “We Ain’t Ducking No Smoke” releases on October 6th.
