Tinker Hatfield’s revolutionary Nike Air Max 1 continues to play an important role in the brand’s lineup of products despite debuting 36 years ago.

As the industry-changing silhouette inches closer to its thirty-seventh anniversary, it’s trying out all sorts of color combinations. The latest experiment is likely to land as part of Nike Sportswear’s Spring 2024 collection, and indulges in a clean “Pure Platinum/Dark Obsidian” arrangement. The pair’s layout takes after the earliest Air Max 1: a “White” mesh base layer sets the stage for soft suede panels in grey. Trimming around the tongue and collar also opt for a silver-like finish, but the mudguard makes the boldest “Pure Platinum” statement on the sneaker.

Elsewhere, the original Air Max design keeps things standard. Branding on the top of the tongue and visible Air units underfoot opt for an understated dark navy, which also covers some of the waffle-patterned traction. The tried-and-proven outsole features Nike Grind material, helping the Swoosh its its sustainability efforts.

No firm nike.com launch details have been disclosed by the brand at the time of this writing, but that’s likely to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy detailed shots of the pair ahead. The Air Max 1 is priced at $140 USD.

In related sneaker news, the “Kobe Reverse Grinch” is set to release in mid-December in Men and Big Kid’s sizing.
